A Safer Wall Receptacle

Whenever you are dealing with electricity in a wet environment, you have a risk of serious injury. This is why there is a special type of wall receptacle designed specifically for usage in such scenarios. It is called a GFCI or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter receptacle. These are required in your kitchen and bathroom, as well as, anywhere else where there is a water source. These receptacles were invented 60 years ago, and they have saved countless lives since then. A GFCI receptacle has 2 buttons on it, one for resetting it after it has been tripped, and one for testing its functionality. The test button is not just there for looks, you should make it a habit to regularly test that it works properly. You can test it by having something plugged into the receptacle and pushing the test button. If the receptacle works as it should, power should be cut to it, as well as, to any other receptacles that are connected through it. If this does not happen, you need to consult an electrician to find out what is wrong.
