Beautiful But Oh So Fragile

One of the first building materials that humans built homes from is still in use today, and that material is wood. While there are many modern materials that have taken over as the most common in some parts of housebuilding, wood is usually still a main component in most buildings. This doesn’t mean that it is used for all the different aspects of home building that it once was. When it comes to roofing materials, for example, there are many different options that are cheaper or more durable than wood, so why do some still choose to have wood roofing?
There are a few reasons that motivate people to go for wood roofing. One is that wood is a renewable resource, which is positive for the environment. Others really like the natural look that you get with a wood roof.
Whatever your reason, it is important to remember that wood is a high maintenance roofing material, and if you want it to last a long time, you need to take good care of it. Wood rot, insects, mold, woodpeckers, and many more dangers to wood are always out to get you, so you should make sure that your roof is protected against all of these. And the sad fact is that even with your best efforts, you will not get as long of a lifespan from a wood roof as you would with other materials.
