Keep Your Furniture Standing

You might be surprised when you see the statistics for how often furniture tip-overs hurt children in homes, but unfortunately, it is a lot more common than you would think. The problem is that children enjoy climbing things, and they are pretty clever at figuring out ways to do it. A piece of furniture that looks very stable could easily tip over when a child opens up the drawers and use them as a ladder.

So what should you do to prevent this from happening? It is important that you make good use of the tip-over brackets that often are provided along with large pieces of furniture. These can be installed fairly easily, but you need to make sure that you do so correctly to avoid it failing when it is put under stress.

The bracket should be installed in a sturdy part of the furniture and then attach to a stud in your wall. If you can’t find a stud near the furniture, you might be able to use anchors to get it attached to the wall, but these won’t be able to hold up as well as a stud would.
