Climbing a ladder is a fairly basic action that many of us have done more times than we can count. You might not be aware, though, that it is one of the most dangerous things you can do around your home. In fact, falls are among the leading causes for injuries in homes, and when the fall is from an elevated surface, chances are much higher that the fall will be serious or even fatal.
So what do you need to keep in mind to safely climb a ladder? You should always have at least 3 points of contact with the ladder while climbing. There are harnesses that will secure you to the ladder if you need to have both arms free to work. You should have your ladder situated on firm, level ground that won’t let the ladder tip, and if you need to get to something that is out of reach, you should go down, move the ladder and then climb back up. Saving time should never be more important than your safety!
